Patrick Charpenel
Patrick Charpenel was born in Guadalajara, Mexico, in 1967. He currently lives and works in New York, United States. Charpenel is a philosopher, and has been actively involved as a curator and collector. In his practice he highlights the paradoxes and ambiguities of the contemporary world. He has presented a significant number of exhibitions in various venues in Mexico and abroad, including the “Gabriel Orozco” exhibition at Museo Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, “Francis Alÿs’ “Paseos/Walks” at Museo de Arte Moderno in Mexico City, “Franz West” at Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporáneo in Mexico City, “Inter play” at The Moore Space in Miami, and “Sustancia-Sustancias” at Collegium in Arévalo, Spain, among others. He has also published critical texts in specialized magazines and, for three years until 2015, served as the director of the JUMEX Collection/Foundation. He was also in charge of the curatorial program Casa Barragán Estancia FEMSA, along with Eugenia Braniff, from 2015 to 2018. Additionally, he co-founded and directed Ediciones MP. Currently, he is the director of El Museo del Barrio in New York, United States.
