Fabiola Larios

Miami/México

Fabiola Larios, born in 1986, is a Mexican interdisciplinary artist living in Miami, currently in residence at Bakehouse Art Complex. Her work focuses on the convergence of technology, identity, and representation in the digital age. Through her work with AI, net-art, and computers, she questions our understanding of the self and the influence of the internet, especially social media, on our existence. Larios’ installations, a visual display of electronic waste, surveillance cameras, mannequins, glitter, gemstones, LEDs, and feminine aesthetics, evoke a sense of warmth and nostalgia while challenging viewers to consider the environmental cost of technology. Her work challenges the audience to reflect on how technology shapes our understanding of ourselves through personal data, and invites critical examination of our digital lives, such as the implications of how intimate details of our lives are exploited by companies and governments. Among the selected group exhibitions are Fundación Foto Colectania’s “Face Control” in 2021, PANKE Gallery’s “Planetary Atoll: Connecting Latin-American Dots” in 2022, and Centro Cultural Los Pinos’ “Creacion en Movimiento” in 2022. Larios received the Jóvenes Ceeadores 2021 fellowship in the New Technologies category. She is currently part of “Sea Change” at the Perez Art Museum Miami.
