Dr. Andrew Mulenga

Dr. Andrew Mulenga is a leading authority on art history in Zambia and has been recognized with numerous awards and scholarships. He was awarded the 2012 CNN African Journalist of the Year for Arts & Culture and received a Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) award in 2014 for his work in arts journalism, while still pursuing an MA in Art History at Rhodes University in South Africa. Additionally, he was awarded scholarships for a PhD in art history by the National Research Foundation of South Africa and the Andrew Mellon Foundation in the United States.
Mulenga is currently the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Open Window University for the Creative Arts in Lusaka, offering undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in creative arts fields such as photography, film-making, graphic design, and creative writing.
Previously, he was the resident art critic at The Post Newspapers and published a weekly column called Andrew Mulenga’s Hole in the Wall for 15 years. He also served as deputy editor of the Education Post. At present, every Saturday, he concurrently writes two separate columns: Eye in the Hole in the News Diggers newspaper and Mulling Over Art with Andrew Mulenga in The Mast newspaper.
