Andrea Bustillos

Andrea Bustillos is an art historian graduated from Universidad Complutense de Madrid, curator, and contemporary art manager. As an independent curator, in 2023 she curated the exhibitions “Brooms, Mattresses, Sheets and Birds” and “PEEL”, both in collaboration with Polina Stroganova. In the same year, she was the curatorial director of Ayarkut in Mexico, an international platform that supports artistic projects with a focus on social practices. In this role, she managed grants and funding for artists, independent projects, art residencies, and cultural initiatives in the country. From 2016 to 2022, she was the director of Galería Karen Huber, specialized in contemporary painting. Under her direction, relevant artists such as Ana Segovia, Allan Villavicencio, Andrew Birk, and Lucía Vidales joined the gallery. Within the gallery, she curated two solo exhibitions by Ana Segovia, “A Boy Named Sue” (2017) and “Toy Boy” (2019). In 2013, she curated the exhibitions “Los disparates de Goya” and “Sueños de Inmortalidad”, “Tarjetas de visita y retratos del siglo XIX” at Museo Nacional de San Carlos, where she worked for three years in the research and curatorial department. In 2014, she coordinated the Ibero-American Symposium on Art Criticism, which took place at Museo Nacional de San Carlos, Palacio de Bellas Artes Museum, and Museo de Arte moderno in Mexico City. Additionally, she serves as an advisor to several private collections and has occasionally written reviews and curatorial texts.
